About

All About Language Learning...

My goal for this blog is twofold; To help ESL the learners and the teachers, the driving force behind every blog. However, it is also meant to hold a mirror to our profession and examine it with honesty, "warts and all" as the English expression goes.

My fifteen years of teaching have developed my understanding of the English language from both a teacher and student's perspective. Why are some language forms so difficult to teach or learn? Teachers are "explainers of things" and if students don't understand, the teacher needs to try again. The thread throughout my blog is to help teachers try to see language from the student's point of view. When this is achieved, both student and teacher succeed.

The world of language teaching is populated with many language teaching settings; in-person, online, teaching of individual or groups. Some settings are more productive and pleasant to work in than others. What makes this so? I would say that schools are full of all sorts of people, perhaps whose intentions are not always in sync with each other. What can be done to remedy settings that stump the growth and development of its teachers?  Airing out in the light of day those issues that make teaching unpleasant, when it should be a joy, is essential. This is because the unacknowledged has a tendency to fester.
